Blog 2 - Duff Disco & Presentation plan

This week was editing together our recently filmed set one twenty night, with DJ Duff Disco. The filming itself went ok and was probably more of a test shoot for the next two big nights. We went into this with a short story board of wanting to show faces and the whole crowd, however the night itslef was not a sell out and could see that from the footage. With a quick discussion and plan on the night we decided to go for more close ups and use mostly the 50mm lens and peoples reactions to the night. When it came to editing I was fairly dissapointted in how the shoot went as we couldnt really follow our plan or type of storyboard, as it was dependant on the crowd and how the night went. When filming at the garage club it seemed quite a dark place as there lighting systyem was undergoing development and they were waiting on a stroinger system. So as it was replacement lights, it didnt really show or brighten up the club as much as we would have wanted. One other problem we came across was settings on our DSLR's and not really planning our shots, we knew what we wanted to capture howevere from not taking our time over aperture and iso settings, it seemed to come out grainy and had a fair bit of noise. This is definatley one thing that will not happen again and will change for the next two shoots. After realising the tyhought process that should go into every shot, just makes me look forwrd to the next shoot.

When it came to the editing of the Duff Disco piece i wanted to use lights a motion blur, this was just from an idea when i was in the club. As the lights wern't great to begin with, i was messing about with my 20mm and as its an fstop number of 5.4 it doesn't take it loads of light compared to my 50mm lens. this meant whilst using the 20mm a lot of shots were dark unless we had our LED or artificial light on things, however that just wasn't the look we wanted to create, as I was saying whilst messing about with my 20mm i noticed once I blurred my shot the only light it could take in was the colours of each light, and with the blurred look, it started to make me think about changing my intro. Light blurring then led to gathering many blurred lights to then take into my edit. After starting the edit, I decided to focus on the music we had chosen and use the blurred lights to go to each beat. I felt this gave it that disco/colourful feel and was a good way to show a house night. We wanted to create that sort of teaser for set one twenty and use a lot of smiling faces with either quick cuts to go with the music or slow moving transition shots. After colour correction and not giving to much away with a little shot selection, i felt this was a good teaser video to then take us into the next one, which happens to be a bigger night with room 2 open. Overall this piece was a good stepping stone to further our ideas and skills for the next two shows.
